Loon Lake Day 1
I know I am late in posting our vacation and other summer activities. This is the first chance I had to actually sit and look at the pictures in detail myself. We decided to go to the Adirondacks over July 4th weekend this year and chose a lake based mostly on the availability of an appropriate cabin, its location from a lake and the surrounding area. Little did we know that we stumbled upon a true gem in the Adirondacks, Loon Lake.
Our first impression was a beautiful lake with beautiful mountains and scenary. We did what many tourists do, and paid to see the local gorge. While a very interesting and fun thing to do, it ended up being less fun than what the rest of the week held for us.

We hiked up a mountain and found what we didn't expect to find...a gorgeous and secluded lake.

The clouds were whizzing by and the sun was incredibly warm on the rocks. We couldn't help but lay down on the rocks and enjoy the beauty of the day. The kids found a friend that was quite interested in our gorp.

We then did another touristy thing (I think we had to get it out of the way) and visited the ski jumping runs just outside of Lake Placid. We saw some future Olympians practicing in the pool and on the down hill. The photos just don't do justice to what these athletes can do.

Our own athletes had their moments of victory and defeat.

From the top of the ski jump we had a bird's eye view of the Lake Placid Horse Show.

All of this competiton put us in a sporting mood.
