Majestic South Dakota

South Dakota had much more in store for us. We were to sleep in Wyoming this night but we still had much more exploring to do. I had read that some people suggested skipping Mt. Rushmore because it just wasn't worth it. They were completely wrong. Seeing those famous faces carved in rock, an American icon, put tears in my eyes. Next time I would definitely sign us up for a tour. We were all amazed by the monument to these Presidents.



The beauty of South Dakota just cannot be captured by a photo. These red rocks, green grass, purple mountains and blue sky demanded that we stop along the highway and enjoy. It was an outstanding day.






As hot as the Badland were the day before, we had to stop to visit this one of many miles of snow fence. Snow fence is used to help prevent the huge accumulation of snow on the roadway. Snow still laid along the fence and we couldn't help but play in it even though it was late June. The elevation not only contributed to the left over snow, it also made a perfect environment for cold weather alpine plants.



Not far down the road, the landscape changed once again and we were awed by the beauty of this place. We need to go back to South Dakota and explore this incredible landscape. It is a wonder how God could put so much beauty in one place.
