Hiking Nurembega and Danek's Birthday

We started our day with a hike up Mount Nurembega which ascends over 800 feet in less than half a mile. We did this strenuous hike 3 years ago and it was quite a challenge for the kids. We hoped that it would be much easier this time around. The trail began uphill as expected, but in the shade and there were plenty of roots and rocks to scamper over and around.

The trail quickly turned into slanted bedrock that at times was quite steep. Danek's suggestion was to "Walk in the cracks and use a good grip".

Danek was the first one to summit, afterall it was his birthday and he was doing great.

After much work and a few rests we all made it to the summit.
We stopped at Thuya Gardens looking for a letterbox and only found beautiful flowers. After a bit more discussion we realized the box was not at the gardens, but up another mountain on the way to the gardens. We would get the box on another day, but the detour proved gorgeous.

We participated in the ranger program, "Life in a Pond". Here Evelyn and Danek help the ranger carry his equipment.
The ranger talks about wildlife we might see in a pond.
Happy Birthday Danek! We hope you had a great day!
