Thanksgiving - From the Turkey's Point of View

Being a Thanksgiving Day Turkey is alot of hard work. I had to prepare days prior to his big day so that I was dressed and ready to cook. I began my journey by being withdrawn from the freezer and placed in a cooler for a few days. It was a much brighter view with the lid open.

After about 24 hours in the cooler I hung out in the refrigerator with other less frozen ingredients.

I was checked on periodically to be sure that I was thawing as expected.

The following day I got my first bath and was able to completely rid myself of ice and frost.

Then, we took a trip to Grandma's house where I got a more thorough cleaning and was able to meet other lesser known stars of the table. I also had a bird's eye view of the other ingredients with which I would get to know very well. All of the openers were preparing for the headliner's arrival, I was a very proud bird. Here the butter is just beginning to melt in preparation of the filling that was about to be cooked and mixed.

All the ingredients were chopped and torn in the proper proportions.

I got an even more thorough cleaning and had my picture taken for the upcoming event.

I was placed back in the refrigerator, or so they thought when I caught one of them cutting the Thanksgiving Day cake! I was aghast that they couldn't wait one more day!

Finally, it was time for the filling in the early hours of Thanksgiving morn and into the toasty oven. Periodically my fans waved to me and even showered me with oohhs and ahhhs as my aroma filled the house. They even bathed me with broth and stayed patient for the awaited hour.

The table was set with a place available in my honor.

This was my view from the table as I was taken out of the oven and placed onto the counter.

Grandma prepared my gravy with great care.

Getting all of the pieces that enhance the flavor.

LET'S EAT!

I'm back in the refrigerator after a very busy day. They check on me and keep me cool.

How lucky I am to be the Thanksgiving Day Bird!

Happy Thanksgiving!
